Connecting Children with Nature Through Creative Exploration
Program Overview
The Eco-Arts Discovery Program, presented by NatureConnect New York, invites all young learners to explore the natural world through hands-on creative experiences. Inspired by Montessori principles that recognize children learn best through direct experience, this five-week summer program creates opportunities for self-directed discovery. Each one-hour session provides a carefully prepared environment where children can engage with ecological concepts through artistic exploration at their own pace, regardless of their educational background.
Program Benefits
Self-directed discovery that respects each child's natural curiosity and learning pace
Concrete to abstract learning where hands-on experiences build foundations for deeper understanding
Sensory-rich experiences that engage all the senses and support neurological development
Development of fine motor skills through meaningful, purposeful activities
Ecological awareness cultivated through direct experience with natural elements
Creative expression that encourages problem-solving and innovative thinking
Community connection through collaborative projects and shared discoveries
Montessori-Inspired Approach
While accessible to all children, our program draws from key Montessori principles:
Prepared environment with beautiful, organized materials that invite exploration
Freedom within limits allowing children to choose their level of engagement
Respect for each child's developmental readiness and unique interests
Mixed-age learning communities that foster peer teaching and collaboration
Emphasis on process over product honoring each child's creative journey
